Gosh we're tired again. As I write it is the flat end of a hard Monday. No reason in particular but Rosa's bedtimes are terrible again and it is the last thing you need when you are wiped after a long day and just need an hour or two of grown up time. We have now given up on the melatonin we had been trying out to see if it helped. It has been about a month and it seemed to have little or no effect on her bedtime rage. We had hoped that it would help her to wind down and relax into the natural rhythm of feeling sleepy at bedtime as it does with some of the other kids. We tried her on 1 ml for a couple of wks and then tried upping it to 2ml and felt there was little or no noticeable effect. Darn! So we stopped and tonight it seemed like she was worse than ever, maybe it was doing something after all, it's never a question of whether she is tired, she always is, she just won't go....It took two hours tonight and she was so upset, so were we and it really seems like there is nothing we can do about it at the moment.
At least Ithan's bedtimes are getting better, the nights vary between iffy and awful but bedtimes and naps are going really well. I have made a routine of reading the hungry caterpillar followed by a cuddle and a lullaby and then I put him down awake and say goodnight and leave him to it. Touch wood he has been settling himself beautifully and sleeping for 3 hours till he wants a feed. We are just starting to address this as I'm sure it's habit rather than hunger. G just successfully settled him back down for the first time AMAZING! He still, too often, ends up in bed with us and wakes far more than is reasonable but at least he is cheerful!
